Spa-ah Day

One of the most enjoyable things about Arizona is the abundance of resorts, especially in the summer.  With temperatures soaring, it’s often the perfect time to book a staycation at one of the many Arizona resorts.  But maybe instead of a staycation, you just want some pampering.  Resort spas in Arizona definitely deliver.

Earlier this summer, I spent a Saturday at the Well & Being Spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in North Scottsdale. I had been a few times before, and this time it did not disappoint.  Earlier this year, Travelzoo was running a special, and I bought a voucher for myself and a voucher for a friend for her birthday.  The voucher included a 50-minute massage (or facial), access to all of the spa facilities, and a glass of wine.

When we arrived, the day was rather cloudy and there was a slight drizzle.  Just wonderful I thought.  We made our appointments for the late afternoon so we had all day to enjoy the amenities.  The spa does have fitness classes – some cost extra, some are complimentary.  I’ve always wanted to try the aerial yoga class, but we opted not to try that and save that for another time. (I’m sure I’ll say that the next time I go too.)

We got our lockers and headed up to the pool.  The Spa has its own private pool which is very quiet compared to the other resort pools.  That’s fine by me.  There was ample seating, and the pool featured these floating bean bag things.  Divine!  A bit awkward to get on, but I enjoyed lounging there most of the day.  The sun even popped out from behind the clouds.  It was wonderful!

We ordered some drinks. I had a Banana Monsoon which was tasty.  Prices are what I expected for a large resort.  The complimentary glass of wine though sadly was not drinkable.  Maybe the chardonnay was, but the red was not. While we didn’t eat lunch this time, I’ve eaten here twice before, and the food is good.

The spa features a sauna, steam room, Eucalyptus inhalation room – though I couldn’t really smell the Eucalyptus as well as a beautiful waterfall area and more.  Make sure to take some time to enjoy the areas.  I hit the steam room and sauna before my massage and then after, though it started raining, and the indoor facilities got packed quickly.

This waterfall is so cool!

My massage was wonderful, and I highly recommend checking out the Well & Being Spa if you’re looking to pamper yourself for the day. The Travelzoo deal comes up every once and a while, but visit the Spa’s website because they are also running a similar deal.  And, there are many other spas in town to check out – from the Revive Spa at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge to Joya Spa at Montelucia to the VH Spa at the Hotel Valley Ho to name a few.  Each offer a different experience and atmosphere. My advice is to check out their websites, read reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor and give it a try. We all need to treat ourselves occasionally.
